Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not retain or record those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be kept for as long as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our systems automatically receive basic technical and usage details when a page loads:
- Page-view dates, times, and visit length
- The device's assigned IP address
- Referring website, when one is reported
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages opened during the visit
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. We use them with analytics services to measure aggregate traffic, popular pages, and typical exit points. A browser can block cookies, although disabling them may change how some site features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search request to the chosen partner
- Diagnosing and repairing technical faults
- Measuring which resources visitors use most
- Operating, securing, and improving site performance
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Florence County Criminal History does not create, keep, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records maintained by Florence County courts and the sheriff, SLED's criminal-history repository, and the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not compiled into a consumer report or a file about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices govern any information submitted through those tools. We do not control those rules, so review the provider's policy before running a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Florence County offices, courts, South Carolina agencies, legal-aid resources, and third-party tools. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select targeted ads. Their tracking is not operated by us.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may still be received by:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query you submit
- Advertising networks serving ads on the site
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices protect the information we receive. No internet system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If such data has been provided, a request may be made for its deletion.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary by place of residence. In South Carolina, the Freedom of Information Act at Title 30, Chapter 4 governs access to state and local public records, while S.C. Code § 30-2-50 restricts knowing use of local-government personal information for commercial solicitation. Criminal-history dissemination through SLED is separately addressed by S.C. Code § 23-3-115. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Object to or opt out of certain processing
- Request deletion of personal data
- Ask for correction of inaccurate information
- Request a copy of information held about you
